Spring Crafting Update

It’s been a busy few months! I’ve been learning how to knit and crochet clothing for 18 inch fashion dolls, and I am having a blast playing around with patterns (ok, and playing with the dolls), and creating some of my own patterns along the way.

Lately I’ve been trying to perfect a half double crochet top that I can start to offer in my Etsy store. But previously, I’ve been trying to make all sorts of things, from knit sweaters and jackets, to crochet hat and scarf sets. And of course messing up my studio along the way. Much of what I’ve been experimenting with has evolved during Twitch broadcasts, with some helpful advice from other crafters and viewers.

Probably my favorite project over the past month has been the Star Trek inspired knit sweaters and slacks set, which is available on Etsy.

I’ve loved playing around with the pattern, figuring out how to create the multi-color sweater, and breaking out the sewing machine to work on little stretchy slacks to offer with the sweaters. Finally understanding how to make little elastic waistbands, and how to get everything to fit the dolls, has been a lot of rewarding work. I have a lot to learn, but it has been a lot of fun seeing my crafting evolve.

Latest Charity Knitting – Loudoun County Homeless Services Center

I have an awesome community on Twitch! Over the past several months, many viewers have used their in-channel currency, which they earn while watching my broadcast, to fund various charity knitting projects. Many viewers have funded hats, scarves and yarn — and today, I was able to deliver the first batch of hats and scarves to the Loudoun County Homeless Services Center.

A total of 16 items, 4 scarves and 12 hats, were delivered to the Homeless Services Center. I want to thank the following viewers for their generosity and help with this donation: Viewers Gussoo, FlyinPinkMunki, WelshTroll, LoveOfAmi and Emoten, who funded hats and scarves. I need to also thank viewer Myra_Lotus, who kindly sent me a shipment of KnitPicks yarn to craft donation items, and several skeins were used in this batch. I am extremely fortunate to have a supportive and kind audience that wants to do outreach as much as I do.

So what’s next?
I have a few more items to make, but soon I’ll be sending out a shipment of items to “Warm Up America!”, also funded by in part by my viewers. 🙂

Hats & Scarves For Charity

From The Heart Stitchers has received the first batch of donations shipped to them! This particular batch of scarves and hats was to support a Veterans Encampment in Ashland, VA. I want to thank two of my viewers, Probability Distribution and Siliun, for funding the yarn used in these projects. From The Heart Stitchers was very appreciative of the donations and said they’d be delivered to the group shortly.

It’s getting close to that time of year… No, not the holidays! National Novel Writing Month!

I’ve done no prep, I’ve barely managed to check in with my home region on the NaNoWriMo boards, but I guess I’m pushing forward. I’ve hesitated signing up for 2017. Between the broadcasting, and the business stuff, and the house duties — plus working around my husband who has also begun working from home full time; there’s not a ton of time to slot writing 50K words into the mix. But I really don’t want to end the streak: I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo since 2004 – 12 of those years I successfully crossed the 50K line. Taking a year off from it feels wrong, even if I have been saying for most of the year that I’m not sure I can handle the challenge this year.

I guess we’ll find out. 😉
