Oct 2016 5 Scarf Challenge – 2.25 Scarves

Challenge!

Just a quick update on my 5 Scarf Challenge: I’ve finished two scarves, using two skeins of Red Heart’s variegated yarn in the shade of Mulberry Mix; and I’m about a quarter finished with a third scarf using Red Heart Super Saver yarn in a shade of Soft Navy.

There are two scarves in the Mulberry Mix shade (the pink and purple colors). One scarf is a simple garter stitch scarf – casting on 36 stitches and knitting all stitches. The second Mulberry Mix scarf is knit in K2/P2 rib – I cast on 36 stitches, knitting and pearling every two stitches on each side. The blue scarf is also a K2/P2 rib. The ribbing moves much slower than working in garter stitch.

Along with challenging myself to make 5 scarves in October, I’m challenging my viewers to knit or crochet 5 scarves in the pattern(s) of their choice this month. All the scarves that I’m making will be donated to the charity Warm Up America, but you can make items and donate them wherever they will do the most good — a local charity, a church group, a homeless shelter; basically any organization that accepts hand-made items and delivers them to those in need. This is a great way to help others, and use up yarn that you might have sitting around. I hope you will decide to craft something to donate as well! <3
